The Merry Mill announced as finalist in EU organic awards

The finalists of the 2023 edition of the EU Organic Awards have been announced and flying the flag for Ireland is The Merry Mill farming and business enterprise, located in Co. Laois.

The Merry Mill is owned by the Scully family who grow, harvest and mill organic gluten-free oats. In addition, they produce organic gluten-free flour, and other organic produce, and they have even built Ireland's first organic gluten-free oat mill!
The EU Organic Awards were first launched in 2022 as part of a commitment made in the Action Plan for the Development of Organic Production with the objective of recognising excellence all along the organic value chain, from farmers to restaurants, from SMEs to bio-districts. Building on last year’s experience, the EU organic awards scheme comprises seven categories and eight individual awards. They acknowledge excellent, innovative, sustainable and inspiring projects producing real added value for organic production and consumption.
The three best projects have been selected for each of eight individual awards, with a total of 24 finalists selected from 11 EU countries. The Merry Mill is a finalist in the ‘Best organic food processing SME’ category, and is competing against Germany and Slovakia for the top honours.
The awards are jointly organised by the European Commission, the European Economic and Social Committee, the European Committee of the Regions, COPA-COGECA and IFOAM Organics Europe. The jury for the awards is composed of representatives from these organisations, as well as from the European Parliament and the Council of the EU. The winners will be announced at the official award ceremony to be held in Brussels on September 25. We wish The Merry Mill the very best of luck!
