A new generation of Fendt

The newly developed, fourth generation Fendt 500 Vario is designed for high payload and drawbar capacity, with innovative features such as independent four-wheel drive, tyre pressure regulation system, and drawbar lighting featuring for the first time in the compact tractor class. It’s our focus in this month’s From the Cab

With four models (Fendt 513, 514, 515 and 516 Vario), the Fendt 500 Vario Gen4 series covers the maximum performance range from 134hp to 164hp (99-121kW) according to ECE R120. In this series, the intelligent Fendt DynamicPerformance (DP) added power concept releases an additional 10hp (7kW) for all models if main and secondary consumers such as the PTO, fan, compressed air supply or air-conditioning require additional power, according to the company. The release of power is not coupled to conditions such as travel speed or PTO use. Fendt DP specifically compensates for the additional power requirement. The consistent work performance ensures higher productivity in soil cultivation, transport or PTO work when stationary with slurry mixer or feed mixer, Fendt says.
The four-cylinder AGCO Power CORE50 engine with five litres of cubic capacity combines the well-known Fendt iD low-speed concept with a nominal speed of only 1,900rpm with a high torque at a maximum of 792Nm on the top Fendt 516 Vario model. Exhaust gas after-treatment takes place via a diesel oxidation catalytic converter (DOC), diesel particulate filter (DPF) and with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) without exhaust gas recirculation. It meets all applicable emission standards worldwide, according to Fendt, and in Europe this is the Level V emission standard. The CORE50 engine is approved for HVO100 and fuels according to DIN 15940. If the machine is operated with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) the CO2 footprint of the machine can be significantly reduced.

Renewed

The Fendt 500 Vario series has been in use worldwide since 2011 with over 25,000
vehicles. In Europe, North America and Australia, the machines are used in grassland, on the field or in vegetable cultivation, while in Australia and the US they also work as a farm tractor with front loaders due to their compact design and manoeuvrability. Now, the series has been completely renewed. What follows are some of the features of note.

VarioDrive available for the first time for compact standard tractors from 135-175hp

The single-stage Fendt VarioDrive TA120 drive has permanent, independent four-wheel drive. This enables maximum tractive power with high soil protection on different subsoils and in curves. In addition, there is no need for manual shifting when switching between field and road.

More efficient work in arable farming

The Fendt 500 Vario is equipped with VarioGrip, the fully integrated tyre pressure regulation system. Depending on the soil conditions and payload, the appropriate tyre pressure can be set in the terminal. A higher tyre footprint increases the tractive power and reduces the ground pressure. The tractor puts its power to the ground particularly gently.

TOTY MidPower winner

As winner of the Tractor of the Year 2026 award in the MidPower category, the Fendt 516 Vario Gen4 impressed with its VarioDrive transmission, powerful AGCO Power CORE50 engine and Fendt DynamicPerformance. Additionally, operation via FendtONE, the new GroundVision drawbar lighting, its compact, manoeuvrable design and outstanding support and axle loads make it a multi-talented machine for grassland, fields, farms and roads, according to the company.

New generation of front loader

Factors such as a continuous view even with a raised front loader including bucket, a particularly small turning circle, the simple control via the 3L-Joystick and a high axle load of the front axle are crucial for productive front loader use.

Powerful in maintenance work

Thanks to its high ground clearance with maintenance tyres, the Fendt 500

Vario can efficiently carry out pesticide or fertilisation measures without injuring the crops. If the customer is setting up a flexible K80 hitch, the ground clearance for late pesticide treatments such as flower treatment in rapeseed increases. A cab designed for protection category 4 is available from the factory.

Soil-friendly and agile in grassland

High-performance tractors with a low power-to-weight ratio, high manoeuvrability, ground clearance and a focus on soil protection are in demand on grassland operations.

Comfort and precision in special crops

Special crops such as potatoes, lettuces or strawberries require particularly high precision at very low speeds, for example when planting beds or milling soil ridges. Equipped with the full range of Smart Farming options such as guidance system including automatic headland management, telemetry and control functions such as TIM, the Fendt 500 Vario series works precisely and intelligently.
