'SCIENCE SUPPORTING FARMING' at the Teagasc stand

Teagasc will have a comprehensive presence at the 2026 National Ploughing Championships (The Ploughing) with its marquee and outdoor exhibit area staffed by Teagasc experts capable of addressing the full range of challenges facing farmers and farm families. Whether you are interested in beef, sheep, tillage, dairy, horticulture, forestry or pig production, there will be a qualified and experienced Teagasc person to provide you with practical answers. If you would like to speak to someone on farm succession/generational renewal, environmental protection, agricultural education, or farm management financial issues, experts on each of those topics will be available too. The theme of Teagasc’s exhibition is 'SCIENCE SUPORTING FARMING', reflecting the fact that all Teagasc advice is independent and underpinned by research.
Teagasc has a significant role in supporting not only food producers but also food manufacturers and food consumers. Experts at its food exhibit will demonstrate, for example, how to improve your gut health and how their work helps manufacturers reduce food waste through technologies such as plant fractionation (which means getting more value from crops like potato, fava, lupin, oat varieties, etc). They will also explain how Teagasc supports the food industry, generally.
After an exceptionally dry summer, Teagasc’s outdoor grassland demonstration will be of great interest to farmers. It will showcase the benefits of including clover and multispecies swards, and how they can help farmers reduce chemical nitrogen fertiliser use while maintaining productive, high-quality swards. Visitors will see practical examples of different sward types and species and learn how clover and other plants can contribute to sward productivity and nutrient use efficiency.
With winter looming, Teagasc beef, dairy and sheep specialists showcase how best to manage various silage qualities and how to balance them with concentrate feeds. Of course they will also address any other livestock-related questions.
Following one of the hottest, dryest summers ever, the need to protect water and the environment is undeniable. Teagasc ASSAP, Signpost, and forestry experts will demonstrate how farmers can play their part.
