E410m misspent CAP funds to be taken back
The European Commission is to claw back E410m of CAP funds from Member States on grounds that it has been spent without adequate control procedures.
Farm Commissioner, Mariann Fischer Boel, claimed this was evidence her officials were determined to control farm spending. ''This is taxpayers' money and they have a right to know it is being spent wisely,'' she said.
Money is to be recouped from Germany, Spain, France, the UK, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden. Italy will pay back the largest amount, at around 35 per cent of the total.
