The Irish Farmers Monthly was established in 1975 and today is Ireland's leading glossy agricultural magazine. To celebrate its 30th birthday, in 2005, the magazine moved to direct mail. It now reaches the top 24,000 dairy, beef, tillage and sheep farmers in the country, while it is also circulated amongst agricultural contractors and key agri-business people.
The magazine is affiliated with the largest dairy organisation in the country, the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association (ICMSA).
As a monthly magazine the Irish Farmers Monthly has the opportunity to analyse key stories affecting Irish farmers. It also gives in-depth coverage to the latest events in Europe and the US. BBC correspondent Richard Wright reports from Brussels, while Mike Wilson, editor of US agricultural magazine Farm Futures, keeps readers updated on the latest American agricultural news and policies.
The magazine has a number of key specialist writers covering dairy, beef, tillage and sheep. Teagasc Dairy Programme Manager, Matt Ryan, provides management hints to dairy farmers every month, while our dairy looks at the latest research and advice available to farmers.
Three tillage specialists, led by Teagasc Tillage Programme Manager Jim O'Mahony, produce the monthly tillage article, while Teagasc specialists Pearse Kelly and Gerry Murphy write the beef and sheep articles, respectively.
Former Macra na Feirme President Matt O'Keeffe writes from a farmers' point of view in his two columns, while each month we interview a key agri-business figure, and carry the latest agri-business news, along with rural life issues, motoring and five pages of machinery news and analysis.
